The Truck

We found out that you need a truck to pull a fifth wheel RV? So we started reading about trucks. Neither of us have ever owned a truck, much less driven a few, so we didn’t know what to look for. As we started searching YouTube, there are many videos out there from folks who have trucks which helped us greatly!

Buying a truck is like buying a house! What type of truck do you need, what are you going to do with it, how much weight can it pull, etc? What color, type of interior, bells and whistles, must have verses nice to have, and then all the different packages! We spent a year just reading about trucks!

The truck we decided on is a Chevy one ton dually 3500 HD LTZ. That’s a big name for a big truck! Well it seems to have all that we need and want and can pull the fifth wheel RV model we want.

So we ordered it on Feb 25, 2022! Woohoo! That was exciting…but in this chaotic in the middle of/post pandemic economy situation, the order didn’t actually go thru until May 12, 2022. Why? It’s crazy, you can’t just go to a dealer and buy a truck, they aren’t many on the lot, especially new ones! Now when you order a vehicle, you have to deal with “allocation” (this is what the manufacturers allow each dealer to purchase periodically) and then if you get allocation one week, you have to deal with “constraints” (whether you can order the part or package you’d like, it may not be available due to shortages). So we are excited that we were actually able to put the order thru on May 12, 2022, next week, we’ll get the update on whether it’s accepted by Chevrolet. Let’s hope!
